MCT T20 2015 -ECC Double header Weekend - One Big win against CCC Devils and a loss to Buckeye Crick
ECC lost the toss and were asked to field. The opening bowlers did well and restricted the scoring. The spinners came in as second change and started picking up wickets... Sunil took 2 /13.. and would have taken a few more, if it wasn't for some horrible fielding at square leg by an ex county player / wrist spinner.  Sensing panic within the CCC camp, Shravan played the role of 'Wicket Chor' to perfection, and took a 5 wicket haul, including a psychotic hatrick and the prize wicket of Bharat.  CCC were sent packing for 59,
Vimal and Vijay chased the score with ease... Vimal scoring 40 and Vijay supporting him well to secure a comprehensive win.
Great support from the youngsters ..

ECC won the toss and elected to bat against Buckeye Cricket Club. Vimal and Fahad started of the batting for ECC and put on a good first wicket partnership. Wickets on the other side were tumbling, Vimal continued to bat strong and finished his half Century and was out in the 18th over. Remaining batsmen contributed and took the score card to 104 in 20 overs, thereby setting a target of 105 for the Buckeyes.

Uday started off the bowling attack and took a price wicket in the first over. But we didn't capitalize on the start and the batsmen started taking over on the ECC bowlers and chased down the target with ease in 14 overs.

ECC wins another nail biter by 1 run with two balls to spare

It was a wet morning to start with, and GNCC2 elected to field first after winning the toss. The ball was not carrying at all, and the ECC openers had to adjust their game by playing defensively. Stanfer made a patient 11 off 31 balls, while Waleed made 26 off 27 balls with only one six. By the first break, the match ball was totally useless, and had to be changed. Whereas, the changed ball started swinging abruptly costing ECC three quick wickets. Fahad bin Rafi, and Ahmad anchored the innings, and added about 50 runs on the 5thwicket, including a massive six over cover by Ahmad. After Ahmad got out, the rest of the batsmen provided ample support to Fahad bin Rafi, who by his excellent running took the target to 146 in 34.4 overs.

GNCC2 batsmen started well, but couldn’t adjust to excellent swing bowling by ECC attack bowlers, and ended up losing two wickets on consecutive balls in the 6th over by Ahmad, one bowled and one LBW. Then Fahad Khan took an excellent catch off of Zain’s bowling to remove the third wicket, followed by a direct hit runout by Shravan. Kushal and Varun from GNCC2 put up good resistance assisted by substandard fielding by ECC dropping at least 10 catches, and missing out on a couple of runout opportunities. Fahad Khan remained unlucky not getting a wicket as he got ECC a few catches that we couldn’t hold on to.

ECC regrouped, focused and took the match back by bringing in Stanfer and Ahmad back in attack supported by good fielding. Shravan took an excellent catch off of Ahmad’s bowling to remove the all important wicket of Kushal, while with all the pressure created by Stanfer’s tight bowling caused the GNCC2 batsmen to panic, and they started losing wickets. GNCC needed 17 off 18 balls, and ECC needed 4 wickets. However, Ahmad conceded 10 runs in the over, although bowling out one batsman meanwhile. Now GNCC needed 7 runs in two overs, and Stanfer produced a gem of an over and only conceded 3 runs also inducing a runout supported by tight fielding by ECC. Equation by this time: 4 required off 6 balls with 2 wickets. ECC seniors decided to go with Ahmad’s bowling, and although the over started with a wide and a leg-bye, there was a caught behind next ball, followed by three LBW appeals which were put down. However, Shravan showed absolute presence of mind running out the batsman who was trying to sneak in a single on the last LBW appeal sealing the victory for ECC by 1 run.

Bowling:

Ahmad 6.4-0-30-5

Zain     3.0-0-12-1

Batting:

Fahad Bin Rafi   33 (66)

Ahmad              28 (35)

Fielding:

Shravan -- 2 runouts, 1 catch

Fahad Khan - 1 catch

ECC wins a thriller against UCC to start off the 2014 Season

It was a good day for cricket to begin with. UCC won the toss and decided to bat first. UCC openers were in an attacking mode but Usman stopped them in the second over of the innings, good catch by wicket keeper Stanny. But they kept building the momentum for next 5-6 overs which saw close to 80 runs on the board for One wicket. ECC had its share of bad luck as some close LBW calls were turned down. With only one slow bowler in the squad, Ahmad bhai bowling change to bring Sunil paid rich dividends. Sunil started in the 9 over and broken the partnership with a brilliant catch by Uday at long on boundary. Sunil started to take wicket per over for next four overs of his overs with a dead plumb, caught and bowled with a diving catch to his right, disturbing the middle timber twice, at that time the score was around 83/6. UCC were clueless and decided to block Sunil delivers. And now comes Tater, fielding for Ankur took one of the best catch, plucked the speeding bullet with one hand of Ahmad's bowling. With three wickets left, UCC started building partnership and Usman got the breaking through, Sunil took a good catch running backwards. Both Uday and Ahmad disturbed the wickets to close the innings. Zain is unlucky not to get to wickets but he is great with his left arm pace bowling. At the end the score read 151 all out. Good fielding by everyone to restrict UCC.

Stanny and Waleed gave us great start, with Waleed seeing the bowl like a football and hitting three massive sixes. He was a feast to watch and Stanny giving a good support on the other end and they put on together around 60 runs in between them with Waleed stealing the show for his 46 runs with a strike rate of around 200. Akhil came in number two, and he was out quickly after a small partnership. Shashi is exceptionally well by stealing single and double. Stanny was out after a well made 27 at that moment score read around 100. Sahsi made around 25 before he was out. Ahmad, Usman,Uday Ankur and Sunil were out cheaply leaving the last pair with 17 runs to score. Zain and Sajid kept their never and steered us to home. Awesome batting by Zain by coming in lower order and scoring around 20 with a run a ball. ECC scored the winning run in 3 balls to spare.

All in all, it is a nerve bitting game. Great fielding and catching by everyone..Stood out were Tater's and Uday's catch.Great commitment from Akhil, Shashi, Ankur, Sajid and of course superb wicket keeping from Stanny. Good bowling by Uday, Usman, Zain, Sunil, Ahmad and  Sashi. Great batting by Waleed, Stanny, Sashi and Zain. Great way to start the season. Go ECC.

Match Summary:

UCC- 152/10 in ~31 Overs. Sunil 5/17, Usma 2 wickets, Ahmed 2 wickets and Uday 1 wicket

ECC-153/9 in 35 Overs. Waleed 46, Stanny 27, Sashi ~25 and Zain ~20.

Man of the Match: Sunil Thumma(7-1-17-5 and 2 catches)

Loss to UCC brings a close to the ECC's 2013 cricketing season
It was a good day for cricket to begin with. ECC won the toss and as in recent games, decided to put UCC in to bat. UCC openers were in an attacking mode with the first ball going for a six and kept building the momentum for the first 6-7 overs which saw close to 70 runs on the board. ECC had its share of bad luck as some close LBW calls were turned down. Usman got the first break through with a fast short pitched delivery that took the edge and flew high up in the air for Usman to take a good catch off his own bowling. With a wicket, the fortunes turned and ECC started tightening the screws on UCC and the next 6-7 overs saw some really tight bowling from Puneet, Naresh and Ahmed which led to loss of UCC's Praveen, Irfan, Bhavik, Subodh and Ravi Kiran. In came Zulfi who had scored a quick fire 50 in the previous game against ECC. Aside from a six and a four, he couldn't do much before he holed out to Waleed in Ahmed's bowling. At then end they reached a very competitive 160/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Highlights for ECC were tight bowling from Puneet, Naresh and Ahmed.

The rain gods decided to spray a shower at the break and the outfield got wet and that started ECC's misfortune. ECC openers Stanfer and Waleed were in good nick and were scoring at par with the required run rate and thrilled us with some great sixes and fours. Waleed got caught off Ravi kirans bowling and soon Stanfer also got bowled by a quick one from praveen bulusu. With new batsmen at the crease, UCC was able to put pressure. Some late sixes by Ahmed and Vijay gave some impetus but some tight bowling from UCC kept our batsmen down.

All in all, as Puneet summarized the game, it turned out to be much closer than what they could have imagined.

Match Summary:

UCC- 160/9 in 20 Overs. Puneet 3/22, Naresh 2/16. Ahmed 2/29
ECC-137/4 in 20 Overs. Stanny 50, Waleed 31

Next season, we have a change in home ground from Rhodes park to Lazelle Park at Sancus Blvd. Let's hope that the change in venue brings in a change in fortunes to ECC.

Waleed, Balaji, Uday and solid teamwork bring back smiles on ECCian's faces on Super Sunday!
55 overs- 543 Runs! That's exactly how many overs ECC bowled and how many Run ECC conceded during last nightmarish weekend for them. To put things in perspective, ECC conceded that many runs in 150 overs during last 4 games before that weekend. ECC needed something special to come out of that gloom and doom and Waleed provided it just at right time on this Super Sunday with his very very special innings. ECC came back like wounded tigers and tamed opposition teams with such ruthlessness that by the time sun was setting, last weekend was looking like years back in history and smiles were truly back on all ECCians. Read on...

Game -1: Vs CCC-Stallions

CCC-Stallions Won the toss and elected to Bat. Scored -169/6 in 20 overs. ( Amit-51, Kadar-40, Tara- 3/28, Mayank- 2/30, Ahmad-1/23)
ECC- 170/5 in 17 overs ( Waleed-72 in 32 balls, Balaji-61*, Dinesh-2/21, Murthy-2/14)
ECC won by 5 wickets!
Man of the Match: Waleed

Match Report:

It was a cold and cloudy morning. The Grass was wet. The team was at the ground at 8:30 all pumped up to play some T20. Despite what happened previous weekend the morale of the team was at its highest. The team realized that it’s a new day and we had to keep our heads up.

CCCS won the toss and ECC was sent to field first. ECC had the best possible start to the game when Tara had CCC opening batsman plumb LBW in very first ball of the innings. Tara got second wicket in his next with batsman edging to the slips. However CCC-Batsman Kadar and Amit Jain counter attacked in spectacular fashion and built a very good partnership to take CCC to a huge total. The field was slippery and it was difficult to field in these conditions, despite a couple of missed catches the team put in some excellent fielding effort and limited CCC-S to a total of 169/6. Considering the weather and slow outfield, this was an excellent score. Tara was most successful bowlers with 3 wickets while Mayank (2 wickets) and Ahmad(1) were other successful bowlers. Puneet and Usman bowled good spells as well. Special mention for great wicket keeping by Shiva playing his first game of the season and not conceding a single bye! Amazing stuff from him.

ECC had to score 170 runs which was not an easy task especially when we were missing our regular opening batsmen. The question during lunch was who is going to open. After some discussion it was decided Waleed and Maya are going to open.  Soon the team discovered that Tara had made an excellent choice. Waleed facing the opening bowler took a 3-4 of balls to get his eyes set. Once set, it seemed like Waleed was seeing a football because he just creamed the CCC-S bowling, hitting some massive 6’s, excellent boundaries. Maya on the other side was calm and looking to just rotate the strike when he got caught at Short leg. Vijay coming in at number 3 was unlucky when his powerful cut shot could not beat the fielder at point. Next to come in was Balaji. Seeing how Waleed was tearing apart the bowling Balaji started playing his natural classy game, playing some beautiful drives. ECC’s current run rate at any given point of the game was never below 9 rpo.  Waleed got couple of life lines in the form of dropped catches but those catches could never be taken because of the power with which Waleed hit the ball. Waleed was destroying the opposition when he misread a ball and it hit the stumps. Waleed scored 72 runs in 31 balls and had put ECC on the patch to victory.  This was easily the most destructive inning by any ECC batsmen this season and came at just right time! Tara came in to replace Waleed and played some beautiful shots rotated the strike while on the other end Balaji took on where Waleed left.  Tara was looking to dominate CCCS when he played a pull shot, the ball did not come of the middle but travelled to deep mid wickets and was caught. ECC by now had reached a comfortable required rate of 5 runs per over. Ahmed bhai came in next, played his natural game and some powerful stokes. He was looking to go after the bowler when he got a big inside edge and drove the ball on his wickets. Score 147/4 in 14 overs. EEC’s top order had setup the win. Next came in Ankur.  With only 23 required in 36 balls, the pressure was on CCCS but Balaji and Ankur did not take this lightly. Ankur hit a couple of boundaries placed beautifully in the gap on the off side. Balaji on the other end made sure that the new comer Ankur did not feel pressured and kept talking and guiding him consistently.  Balaji scored the winnings runs, completed his first half century of the season. Balaji Scored 61 runs not out. This victory was really a great achievement for ECC since CCCS is tough opposition and ECC was playing after having a horrible previous weekend.  WE ALL FALL DOWN BUT ONLY THE STRONG GET BACK UP AGAIN.

Game-2: Vs UCC-Royals

UCC-R won the toss and elected to Bat.
UCC-R All out for 52 in 14.2 overs ( Rakesh-21*, Uday 5/7, Mayank-3/5)
ECC-53/1 in 6 Overs ( Waleed -30*, Mayank-14, Nimit-1/9)
ECC-Won by 9 wickets!
Man of the Match: Uday

Match Report :

The weather was perfect for the second game of the day to start with. Every individual was so pumped up by the win against CCC- Stallions and in thirst for the winning moment once again.  ECC bowlers were right on the target from the very first over. Tara opened the bowling with an amazing over to get a good start. What followed next was pure mayhem. Putting aside the setback in last few games, Uday showed why he is rated so highly by his teammates. within blink of an eye, he sent half of UCC-R side packing with his accurate and destructive inswing bowling to return with match figure of 4-2-7-5. Disciplined bowling from Naresh, Usman & Ahmed kept the leash tight from one end while Mayank bowled beautifully at the other end to take remaining wickets to bowl UCC-R out for paltry 52 runs .  Excellent fielding from Sajid, Tater & Ankur.  Well-kept Balaji. That ECC will chase the target was never in question but considering the battering of last week-it was time to improve on some run rate. Waleed and Mayank were on task from the word go- with Good batting from Mayank, Waleed & Ankur- ECC reached its target in just 6 overs. Waleed continued from where he left from in the morning and hit few Fabulous sixes & fours to remain not out on 30. Special thanks to Fahad Bhai for being at the ground and cheering up boys.

Man of the match: Excellent bowling from Mayank for 3/12, Fabulous batting from Waleed 30 not out however man of the match goes to Uday for his second five wicket haul of the season.

Real glory is in rising after knocked down to your knees and that's exactly what ECC has done. ECC is renowned for such fighting comebacks and they again proved that last week was just an Aberration in an otherwise excellent season so far!

Go ECC!!!

Mayank creates history...becomes first man on earth to lose his single status on the Cricket pitch!!
In what will go down as first ever in the history of Mankind, Mayank did unprecedented when he proposed his lady love Huma on the Cricket pitch on the morning of ECC's Quarterfinal game against CCI at Ceraland park on 7th September 2013. Mayank arrived with Huma, Binny and his mom to the ground in his silver Audi. Huma had no idea what is going to come but ECC team did. Mayank brought Huma to mid pitch on the pretext of introducing her to the team mates. Whole ECC team was standing in line when Mayank held Huma's hand and nervously started speaking. He was so nervous that we bared heard what he said but Huma certainly did :). I think he said he was dreaming of marrying a girl like Huma since he was 5! He then went down on his knees and took out beautiful diamond ring from his pocket and uttered in Punjabi "Byah Karegi Mere Naal"...which meant "Would you marry me?" By this time Huma came to terms with whats going on and started blushing. She was hesitant initially but everyone was pleasantly surprised when she uttered "Yes!!" :)..Mayank was over the moon and raised his both hands like a double centurion!! By this time CCI team which was curiously looking from boundary to find whats going on realized the gravity of situation and joined ECC team and Binny in clapping and congratulating the couple. Mayank did not bring his Mom to the pitch because he was too shy but she happily witnessed the entire occasion from the boundary line. During the whole game, Huma was seen proudly flashing the beautiful diamond ring on her finger. Mayank has certainly reserved his place in history books while Huma reserved Mayank for life in her heart. Couple was seen hugging and smiling at each other throughout the game. On behalf of whole ECC- Seniors P-Bhai and Puneet Bhai presented a nice engraved gift to the couple during lunch time. Hopefully couple will look at the gift years away from now and remember how much Cricket and ECC meant to Mayank and How much ECC was happy to be part of it. Couple of thoughts that ECC could not engrave on the gift due to lack of space are:

"Dear Huma and Mayank - May your life together be filled with all the right ingredients: a heap of love, a dash of humor, a touch of romance, a spoonful of understanding and lots of Cricket and ECC. The ECC Family is extremely delighted for both of you. Congratulations..."

"Dear Huma and Mayank-This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship. May God bless you with lifetime of love and happiness together."

Mayank brought chocolates for everyone but unfortunately they melted by the time we got to it. We expect Mayank to make up for it.  its up to him how!
We are just happy and ready to dance at any opportunity!
Go ECC and Go Hu-mayank!

ECC knocked out of MCT-35 by CCI
CCI-Won the Toss and elected to bat first.
CCI- 309/4 in 35 overs.
ECC -257 for 6 in 35 overs. ECC lost by 53 runs.

In any game regardless of where it is -with the kind of team ECC has..the reasons of losing can either be if opposition has played outstanding Cricket or we have performed below our potential in bowling, batting, fielding or leadership.I think it was combination of all of these yesterday. CCI batted outstandingly on their home ground knowing fully well what is going to come and how the pitch is going to behave....But our bowlers did create chances for us and we had moments where if taken advantage of, we could have limited them to lesser score...Great bowling from Puneet and Mayank....and still during chase of 310, game was definitely ON until both of our set batsmen Prashanth bhai and Fahad Bhai who both scored half centuries with strike rate of more than 200 had to retired hurt...I mean BOTH!!
This caused complete loss of momentum for us which we could never recover from and we still ended up with 260 runs.. (911 had to be called for P Bhai during the game..and fortunately for us it came at right time and he is now discharged from hospital and all is well)...what a great fight by these two senior guys...they showed us why ECC has been outstanding during all these years...we all need to learn from them and this game and apply to future games..one disappointment of this game was that our best Batsman Balaji did not get enough time in the middle to have a crack at opposition. At the end of the day,  we must give credit to CCI Batsmen as to how they paced their innings and made the best use of chances they got ..We have never seen even Sachin Tendulkar score a century without offering a chance so I must applaud CCI Batsmen for the way they played...overall it was a great game fitting to quarterfinal billing which CCI won because they were better and fitter team on the given day.

Finally, This is not the End of the world...Season is NOT over yet..we have MCT T20 going on and if we love this game, we will pull our socks and get back to business..we have worked so hard this season..and we want to finish this strong.....Again T20 is no less important, Remember it is THE most exciting form of Cricket in the world...so Let's continue to have some fun guys!

Here is what ECC's great warrior P-Bhai thinks about quarterfinal game:

"It was one of those days where everything went wrong, let’s forget about it and concentrate on what is coming. What’s important is that we made a great progress since the start of the season and the club seem to be heading in the right direction and getting more organized.

ECC storms into MCT quarterfinal with a dominant win over UCC
ECC set up juicy quarterfinal date with CCI after Balaji, Ahmad and a great bowling/fielding effort helped ECC beat UCC by 4 wickets in pre-quarterfinal of MCT-35 tournament. It was not as easy as it sounds..read on...

Match Summary:

UCC- 148 All out in 34.1 overs ( Bellamkonda-44, Tejinder-22, Balaji -3/24, Tara- 2/17, Mayank-2/48)
ECC- 149 for 6 in 30.2 overs ( Ahmad- 51, Balaji- 28, Uday Nama -3/23, Shani-2/18)
ECC Won by 4 wickets.

Detailed Report:

Toss Won by UCC and elected to Bat first on a great, bright and sunny day perfect for a great game of cricket on lush green and fast Rhodes park ground. ECC was right on money from the word go and never let it loose throughout the fielding inning. At first break UCC was 39 for 3 with Uday getting Abhish neatly caught at point by Naresh in his second over. A inspirational bowling change by Stand in Skipper Mayank to bring Tara as early as 6th over paid rich dividend when he first got Subodh plumb LBW and then clean bowled Bhavik to give ECC crucial breakthroughs before heading to drinks. A steady 53 run partnership between skipper Praveen and Bellamkonda steadied the ship for UCC but they were never allowed to score freely due to some highly disciplined bowling by Fahad, Uday, Tara and Mayank. At this stage, another smart move by Mayank to bring Balaji into attack proved to be trump card of the match as he took 3 key wickets at crucial juncture. First to go was Bellamkonda who was getting frustrated by slow scoring rate and his eyes lit up seeing an slightly short ball outside off from Balaji- he hit it fast, furious and hard over covers but could not beat Tara who took the well judged catch over his head. Next to go was well set Praveen looking to work the ball to square leg but found Ahmad who did not had to move a inch and took a nice catch. Then Chandru was clean bowled by Balaji finishing off with wonderful spell of 3/24. Mayank then got 2 big hitters in the same over ..both Tejinder and Zulfi went for big hits but both found Uday taking great catches at long off boundary showing great presence of mind during both catches...those who were at the ground will know what I mean :)... Ravi Kiran played a little cameo but was run out smartly by Prashanth bhai when he tried to steal a single. Uday bowled intelligently at the death and effected brilliant run out of Shani in his last over to send UCC packing for 148 runs.

Target was small but the occasion seemed to have pumped up UCC. Stanny and Prashanth started aggressively for ECC taking 20 runs in first 2 overs but breaks were applied immediately when Prashanth nicked an out-swinger from Uday to Bhavik. Stanny perished in identical way to same bowler/keeper combo in next over...even before we blinked an eye, Waleed and Fahad bhai were also back to pavillion with Shani getting both of them with some nice bowling. While Waleed was neatly caught by Subodh at short mid off, Fahad was adjudged LBW off Shani..  Suddenly the face of the match was changed and ECC was 41/4 at the first drinks break and UCC was sensing an upset. After the break, Ahmad who was promoted up the order and Balaji started building a partnership and objective was not to lose another wicket. Ahmad was patient while Balaji was looking in superb touch from the first ball he faced. As UCC went wicketless for 6 -7 overs- they grew desperate while Balaji and Ahmad grew in confidence and started playing their strokes. We then witnessed an excellent partnership of close to 80 runs between them with Ahmad coming to his own who played some excellent strokes all round the ground. Stood out were his huge six off Ravi Kiran to Mid on and 2 back to back glorious cover drives off Praveen Bulusu both of which went for 4s. Tide has truly turned ECC ways when Ahmad completed his first half century of the season and what a way to come good in a knock out game and in pressure situation. He got out to a very good ball from Bellamkonda for 51 but he had more than done his job for the team. At the other end Balaji was looking unstoppable and first risky shot he played caused his downfall when he hit a powerful cut straight to point off Uday but not before taking the team to the doorstep of victory. Tara and Mayank finished the game with ECC reaching the target with more than 5 overs to spare and 4 wickets left.

A great game with very good fight from UCC made the victory even sweeter. ECC was ruthless in fielding and a score of 148 was always achievable on Rhodes Park. Great fielding and catching by everyone..Stood out were Horsie Naresh manning mid wicket boundary saving numerous runs and boundaries..great catches and run out from Uday..good fielding from Vijay at long on...Great commitment from Ahmad and Waleed and as usual nice and tight fielding from Mayank, Balaji, Fahad, Stanny  and Tara and of course superb wicket keeping from Prashanth. Nimit was more than ideal replacement for injured Stanny and showed great commitment to the team's cause by fielding tightly for close to 10 overs.

Now its Quarterfinals! Its an mouthwatering prospect and we can't wait to take on CCI at their home ground after long weekend.

Man of the match: There was nothing to choose between Ahmad and Balaji- both played match winning contributions. While Ahmad's 51 were instrumental during chase, Balaji first took 3 keys wickets to limit UCC to a low score and then formed an ideal partnership of 80+ runs with Ahmad without taking any risks and played chanceless knock of 28 in the middle order. Team management thinks that limiting UCC to low score was the main reason we were able to chase the target even after losing 4 top order wickets inside first 8 overs. Therefore Balaji is declared as Man of the Match for his all round show of 3/24 and 28 runs! Congratulations both Ahmad and Balaji for such a great performance in a Do or Die game!

Go ECC and good luck for the next game!

ECC Batsmen set up comprehensive victory against UCC in last league game

ECC won by 64 runs

Match report:

It was a beautiful day to play some cricket. The ground was mowed to perfection and outfield was looking excellent.  The entire team was on the ground before time and warming up. ECC was all pumped up and ready to thrash any obstacle in its course to victory. The biggest question of the day for ECC before the Toss was “Should we Bat or Bowl first”. Knowing that bowling has always been ECC’s strength and looking at our captain  trying to decide whether to bat or bowl first gave everyone the feeling that ECC’s batting is not far behind ECC’s Bowling.  UCC won the toss and the question was answered, ECC was going to go bat first.

Our Openers Stanny and Prashanth bhai looked dangerous and in excellent form.  UCC put their best bowlers to stop our dynamic duo from scoring runs but our openers were too good for UCC to handle.  Prashanth bhai and Stanny were keeping the pressure on UCC by stealing clever singles, doubles and scoring some very well placed boundaries when Stanny unfortunately got run out but not before providing ECC an ideal start. Score was 51-1 in 8 overs. In the dugout no one put their heads down and Waleed came in to replace Stanny. He and Prashanth bhai batted beautifully till the end of first session stealing runs every chance they got. Waleed did not let his leg injury get in the way of him putting pressure on UCC.

After coming back from the break Waleed was looking to go after UCC’s bowling when he got bowled out on a delivery that stayed low and hit his stumps.   He was disappointed as he knew he was in form and it was just hard luck that the ball did not bounce as much as it usually does on ECC’s pitch. After Waleed’s departure in came our indestructible wall “Fahad bhai”. He looked like he had only one objective in mind “To play his natural game and stay there for complete 35 overs”. With Fahad bhai being on the pitch gave confidence to Prashanth bhai to go after UCC. He hit a huge 6 over long on fielder. The fielder thought he had a chance to catch the ball but he was unaware of the power put in the shot by Prashanth Bhai.  He was in full momentum when he struck another shot which came off the bottom of his bat and got caught. It was a pleasure watching him hit 62 runs at a strike rate of over 120  with some gorgeous on drives you will see at this level. Fahad was joined by our Mr. Dependable BalaJi who batted beautifully and took on where Prashanth bhai left off. Just when Fahad bhai started to up the run rate-he got caught  when a powerful cut found fielder at sweeper cover. In came our powerful hitter Mayank who had his team and some beautiful crowd cheering his every stroke :). The power with which Mayank plays his shots was underestimated by UCC which they pretty soon realized when Mayank hit the ball with a pull shot at deep mid-wicket. The fielder caught the ball but paid the price, his thumb was dislocated with the amount of force behind the ball. Unfortunately he still held on to it which meant Mayank had to walk back to the dugout.

It was the time for our captain to come on the crease and show everyone what he’s made of. He played some excellent shots; hit a humongous 6 straight down the wicket.  Bala continued playing excellent shots with Tara giving him full support. It was looking like there is no stopping Balaji when he mistimed a shot trying to over the top and got caught at short mid wicket. ECC was 205/5 in 33 overs when Balaji fell. In came Naresh who stayed at the crease with our captain and helped the team reach an excellent score of 217-6 in 35 overs.

Even knowing that ECC’s greatest strength is its bowling and the score it put up for UCC to chase was extremely difficult to say the least, No one in the team took the game lightly. In fact the team’s commitment and energy level was at its highest level.  Our Star bowler Uday opened the bowling with some good swings. UCC’s batsmen were unable to read Udays bowling who took the wicket of Irfan in his first over, credits to Naresh for taking an Excellent running catch at covers. Naresh supported Uday completely by bowling some beautiful Yorkers, keeping the bowling tight and not giving them any easy runs. Uday’s second over, he got in form Praveen Bellamkonda out by bowling a fast and wide  inswinging full toss outside off stump which the batsman tried to hit over the slip cordon. Looking at the speed with which the ball was travelling everyone one though it was flying over wide off the second slips to the boundary until our captain caught it single handedly with batsman leaving in disbelief.  Looking at Uday’s bowling one could assume that he could read the batsmen’s mind, which became apparent when he bowled an out swinger to the Subodh who tried to play a slice shot but only managed to knick it and was caught nicely by Prashanth bhai at point. From here onwards there was no stopping ECC. Everyone know how great Fahad bhai‘s bowling is and UCC was threatened by him. This was readily apparent by some controversial calls made by their leg umpire but Fahad bhai did not let this get to him and kept bowling magnificently. Mayank also kept his bowling line and length precise and bowled excellent spell making batsmen work for every run.  UCC’s batsmen were trying to build a partnership, Heat was taking its toll on the fielders, with Abhish and Bhavik playing sensibly and forging an good looking partnership and ECC knew it needed a breakthrough. As has happened many times in the past it came when Abhish took on Balaji at short mid off trying to steal run from a on drive only to find Balaji's powerful direct hit shattering the stumps at the bowling end. It was beginning of the end for UCC. Captain Tara then had Ravi plumb LBW and then got UCC captain Praveen caught at covers with Ahmad taking an well judged high catch. Tara then got dangerous Julfi who inside edged a flighted top spinner to the stumps. With Pressure building and batsmen trying for quick singles, Bhavik's end came when striker did not respond to a call for quick single and both batsmen ended up at same end and Tara smartly got Bhavik run out who played an extremely sensible knock of 53. Fahad bhai then took final wicket with some excellent bowling and brilliant stumping by Prashanth bhai. Hats Off to Stanny for his exceptional effort in trying to catch the ball at long off, this left Stanny with an injured shoulder (Get Well Soon Man). Throughout ECC’s bowling there was not a single moment when the bowler/fielders were not cheered up. It was an excellent example of team effort winning the game. Also stand out were couple of excellent saves by Mayank fielding at point and short mid off. As usual our flying horse Naresh was involved in many great saves. Special Thanks to Usman for being there for the team and filling in for our fielders. Ankur did great job manning the square leg boundary. Indeed it was a fitting end to ECC's glorious league campaign. ECC finally won by 64 runs.

Man of the match: Prashanth Bhai played a glorious knock of 62, Balaji again proved his worth by helding middle order together and hitting gorgeous 41 and forging good partnership with Fahad, Mayank and Tara, Uday cleaned up UCC top order with 3 wickets up front. However for the second consecutive match, Man of the match goes to Captain Tara for his all round show who first coming in at number 7, scored 33 Not out in just 21 balls providing ideal finish to ECC's inning and then came back to take 3 key UCC wickets, got UCC half centurian Bhavik run out and held a brilliant catch to send back UCC best batsman Praveen Bellamkonda.

Now its Playoff time and hope ECC continue its winning ways. Good luck and Go ECC!!
